Mountville, Pa. (November 3, 2009) – Community Services Group (CSG) recently announced that it is offering Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) through its outpatient program, MAPS Behavioral Health Services. CSG is able to provide this service through support from Lancaster County MH/MR.

DBT is an evidenced-based treatment for persons diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder. Borderline Personality Disorder involves difficulty in regulating emotions and includes the following symptoms: relationship instability, identity problems, impulsivity, self-harm and suicidal behaviors, mood instability, inappropriate and uncontrollable anger and dissociative symptoms.

Research has shown that DBT is effective in reducing psychiatric hospitalizations and self-harm behavior, while it improves functioning, mood and relationships. DBT is focused on teaching individuals skills to regulate emotions which often lead to harmful behaviors. It consists of a weekly skills group and individual therapy in addition to a specialized on-call system designed to assist individuals in applying these skills in all areas of his/her life. MAPS is accepting referrals to the DBT program with a capacity of 12-15 individuals.

Since 1972, Community Services Group (www.csgonline.org) has been dedicated to providing quality, community-based mental health and intellectual and development disability services throughout central and northeastern Pennsylvania. With over 1,700 employees, CSG has developed a spectrum of specialized programs to meet the needs of the individuals it serves.
